Acomplia is recommended for treating obesity or overweight patients who present a high risk of diabetes or who have high concentrates of fat in their blood. It is a part of the new class of drugs called cannabinoid-1 Receptor Blockers (CB1) and is know to significantly reduce appetite.
Rimonabant is among the very first selective CB1 receptor blockers to be used worldwide. It is originally designed to aid weight loss to extremely obese individuals with Body Mass Index (BMI) that is greater than or equal to 30, and not to be prescribed for “regularly” obese patients. CB1 is found in the brain and other organs and is the one responsible in the metabolism of glucose and fat. By blocking signals from the brain receptors that urges you to eat, hunger is then curved and possible weight loss is obtained.

I was warned about the depressive side effects of this drug. They were pretty unbearable. The little bit of energy I had was zapped and I couldn't face anything. I managed about 3 weeks on this before giving it up.

I've just started taking this new drug prescribed by my GP. It's supposed to suppress your appetite. I'm not sure if they are working yet My appetite feels less but then im so depressed through my weight I think it may be the depression that has made my appetite loss. Is anyone else taking Rimonabant what do you think?
