Amoxil

Brand Name: Amoxil

Generic Names: Amoxicillin

Amoxil is used to destroy and stop the growth of certain bacteria and is primarily used to treat infection brought about by Helicobacter pylori and ulcers of the small intestines  as well as infections caused by common bacteria Escherichia coli and Streptococci. They take action by preventing the formation of bacterial cell wall deterring bacterial growth. It is also very useful in treating ear infections, as well as throat, skin, respiratory and even urinary infections.

What is Amoxil?

Amoxil is a drug of the penicillin family and is an effective treatment for bacterial infections but not on viral ones. It cannot fight off colds or flu viruses. This drug is well accepted in the society since it is largely inexpensive, effective and it tastes good too. Amoxil is labeled as a broad-spectrum antibiotic, which means that it can treat a wide variety of commonly occurring bacterial infections. It works by altering the ability of bacteria to form cell wall. They need these walls to protect themselves from the effects of drugs entering their cell. Amoxil takes away the ability of the bacterial cell wall to adhere to each other creating holes and making them susceptible to drugs and medicines.

Unlike other drugs though, it can be taken with or without food. It is advised to finish the prescribed course of the medication and not stop taking it as soon as you notice the symptoms to stop, doing so might not eliminate all bacteria and will easily grow back to reinfect the person.
