Soma is used to relax the muscles that are stressed due to strains, sprains and other injuries caused by work or sports. Doctors usually advice the patients to take a rest and undergo physical therapy together with this drug in order to recover faster.

What is Soma?

Soma tablets are used to treat muscle injuries as well as other musculoskeletal disorders. It is composed of alginic acid, magnesium stearate, potassium sorbate, starch and tribasic calcium phosphate.

Important information about Soma

•    Habit forming and should only be used by the person it is prescribed for and not shared with any body else.
•    May cause severe withdrawal symptoms if stopped abruptly.
•    Doctors need to adjust the dosage slowly decreasing it until such time that you are ready to stop.
•    Must not be used when or during driving and doing manual work that requires alertness.

Who should not use?

Before taking Soma, check with your doctor especially if you previously have or is currently suffering from the following:
•    Kidney disease
•    Liver disease
•    Pregnant or planning to become pregnant
•    Breast-feeding
•    Epilepsy
•    Seizure


Do not take Soma if you are allergic to Carisoprodol or any of its ingredients.

How should I use/take Soma?

Take this medicine orally, with a glass of water 3x a day and at bedtime
It can be administered with food or milk as it can cause stomach upset if taken otherwise.
Do not take more than has been prescribed to you.

What happens if I miss a dose?

Missed doses are considered missed. Leave it and take the next scheduled dosage. Do not overdose to compensate for the missed one. If you remember and still with enough time before the next one, take it, if not then proceed with your regular dosing schedule.

What happens if I overdose?

During unexpected and emergency situations, Call for help right away and notify your physician for such matter. You may contact a poison control center or have you taken to the nearest hospital for abrupt treatment; if the person is passed out and not breathing, call 911 or your local emergency response team.
Overdose symptoms may include the following:
•    Shallow breathing
•    Hallucinations
•    Muscle stiffness
•    Light-headedness
•    Confusion
•    Fainting
•    Seizure

What should I avoid while using Soma?

•    Avoid drinking alcohol as it could add to the dizziness brought about by the drug.
•    Do not drive or operate heavy machineries as it could severely impair thinking or reaction time.
•    Cold or allergy medicines
•    Narcotic pain relievers
•    Muscle relaxant
•    Medicine for seizures

Soma side effect

Consult your doctor immediately if you notice any of the following: allergies, such as skin irritation, itchy skin, hives, swelling of the face, tongue or lips, difficulty breathing, confusion, feeling of weakness, dizziness.

Following are systems that do not require special attention. In case they persist, consult your doctor: headaches, nausea, vomiting.

What other drugs will affect Soma?

Drug interactions have the tendency to change the effectiveness of either medicine.
•    CNS Depressants like alcohol, benzodiazepines, opioids
•    CYP2C19 Inhibitors and inducers (omeprazole or fluvoxamine)
•    Rifampin
•    St. John’s Wort
•    Low dose aspirin
